We had penciled in the Lead Balloon Cafe for a few months now, due to we only found out about it a few months ago. So we added it to the list and today was the day. Oh and when I say we I mean Xaria... smile

Name: Lead Balloon Cafe
Address: 20 Malcolm Street, Dunedin North, Dunedin 9016
Website: https://www.facebook.com/theleadballoon

Being on holiday or vacation or annual leave... basically no work... we were able to go on a week day to a few of the cafes that are not open on weekends. However being a week day parking in town is not the easiest and not free. That being said we were able to find a park relatively quickly and easily just down the road.

The Lead Balloon Cafe is not a large commercial cafe, and does not have a lot of indoor seating however they have more seating in an enclosed lean-too with marquee like sides... which during summer would be great as they would be able to open up the marquee sides and how more of an out door feel to it.

There was not a lot of a selection in the cabinet food however we were early and they could be still preparing for the lunch rush.

We ordered our cheese scones and coffees. They asked if we wanted the scones heated and of course we said "yes please." We found a seat and table inside which had a dinner styled seat against the wall ... not sure what to call them. (Sorry)

Our coffees arrived first and pretty quickly which is one of the pro's of going early you miss all the queue's, and our scones were not too far behind that.  We both noted that this was that it was one of the few places that heated the scones properly and for a decent amount of time.  We also both noted that the butter was creamer than normal butter.

The scones had a very small, minute hint of a spice or something we thought was pepper or something we couldn't put our finger on it. But we enjoyed it. We both enjoyed our coffees as well... Any way we did our standard Facebook posts for our friends and family to keep up with our cafescapde.

The Lead Balloon Cafe does have that cafe culture feel to it, just because indoors had the cosy feel to it and the staff were friendly. The prices were pretty good as well at $25.00.  Would most definitely go back.

On our way out Xaria asked about the scones and found out that it was chilly flakes... good. smile

The final part to our write up, as we were wandering aimlessly around town because we could while on holiday The Lead Balloon replies to our post... and answers the reason to our creamy butter comment.
