Conspiracy theorist Billy Te Kahika has abandoned his political aspirations and shut down his party, announcing he will focus instead on his activism.

It brings an end to the short-lived New Zealand Public Party, briefly known as the Freedom Party, which campaigned on COVID-19 misinformation.

China has lashed out against Canada for signing a declaration denouncing the arbitrary detention of foreign citizens, describing the move as a “despicable and hypocritical act” as relations between the two countries remain tense.

OPINION: The revelation that Air New Zealand had been silently contracting services to the Saudi Arabian navy was apparently not the only instance of New Zealand’s connection to the murderous war in Yemen.

A week after Air New Zealand apologised to the government, it emerged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFAT) had approved exports of military equipment to Saudi Arabia in 2016 and 2018.

Australia's Prime Minister has accused Facebook of abusing its power during the Christchurch terror attack as the bitter dispute between the two continues. 

On Thursday Facebook wiped out pages from Australian state governments and charities as well as from domestic and international news organisations.

Dreams of an Art Deco 21 gun salute were dashed for Royal New Zealand Navy vessel HMNZS Manawanui after the cancellation of this year's festival.

Up to 150 soldiers were due to lead the Vintage Car Parade at the Art Deco Festival in Napier, with the HMNZS Manawanui to provide a further spectacle to the 'Saluting the Services'-themed festival.

There is one new case of COVID-19 in the community on Friday and three new cases in managed isolation, the Ministry of Health says.

In a statement released on Friday, the Ministry said the new case (which is known as case G) is linked to the existing Auckland February cases.
