The Government has offered assurances that police will be ready and able to help businesses enforce vaccine pass use, saying officers "know what's coming".

Vaccine certificates - called My Vaccine Pass - went live this morning, and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced this afternoon the traffic light system would take effect nationwide shortly after the 29 November Cabinet meeting.

It is "inevitable" COVID-19 cases will crop up around the country once Auckland's border opens, and the greatest impact will be on communities with the least resources, experts say.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced today that all of New Zealand is likely to move to the traffic light system at the end of the month, and Auckland's border will reopen from mid-December.

A United States Navy ship will visit New Zealand in the next fortnight, it's been announced, providing an opportunity for our Defence Force (NZDF) to receive more training.

The vessel - an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer - will berth in Wellington at some point this month, the NZDF announced on Wednesday. While on our shores, the ship's crew will train and interact with NZDF personnel, as well as take part in interoperability exercises and official engagements.

Newshub understands vaccination will not be absolutely necessary for summer travel, with a negative test a possible alternative. 

On Wednesday, the Government will unveil its systems for summer - and while there will be a vaccination or test requirement for travel out of Auckland, don't expect to see police checkpoints everywhere.

Anyone who is double-vaccinated for Covid-19 will be able to request a vaccination certificate later this morning.

The certificate - dubbed "My Vaccine Pass" will be required in a range of public settings under the new traffic light system.

COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins has announced that vaccine certificates are ready to download in time for the summer break. 

My Vaccine Pass is an official record of someone's COVID-19 vaccination status and will allow access to places that require proof of immunisation under the new COVID-19 Protection Framework.
