New Zealanders feel "shut down" and are accused of being a racist or a 'Karen' if they say something, Judith Collins says as she celebrates National's new 'Demand the Debate' campaign.

The opposition party on Sunday launched the campaign, which it says comes in response to policy announcements by the Government which it never campaigned on, such as the electric car rebate scheme. It wants the country to have a conversation about these issues, saying Labour's "parliamentary majority is not a mandate for Labour to promote their ideological wish list".

A senior Russian security official warned Britain on Wednesday not to sail its warships near Russian-annexed Crimea again unless it wanted its sailors to get hurt.

The warning, issued by Mikhail Popov, deputy secretary of Russia's Security Council, follows an incident last month when British warship HMS Defender exercised what London said were internationally recognised freedom of navigation rules in Ukrainian territorial waters near Crimea.

China's military said it "drove away" a U.S. warship that illegally entered Chinese waters near the Paracel Islands on Monday, the anniversary of an international court ruling that held Beijing had no claim over the South China Sea.

The Chinese comments resembled the usual reaction from Beijing following freedom of navigation operations by U.S. warships held almost every month in the South China Sea.
