A third Russian Major General has been killed in the Ukraine conflict, landing another blow on Vladimir Putin's invasion plans. 

Ukrainian officials said Major General Andrei Kolesnikov, commander of the 29th army of Russia's eastern district, had been killed.

As the horrors in Ukraine continue at Russia's hand, the New Zealand Government is about to give itself the tools to impose sanctions on those responsible.

Parliament on Monday pulled together a show of solidarity, by hanging up a piece of Ukrainian art from the vaults. It's a map of New Zealand embroidered in traditional Ukrainian designs and was gifted by the Ukrainian community in 2016.

New Zealand will freeze the assets of Russia's elite and ban Russian super yachts, ships and aircraft in support of Ukraine. 

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Monday the Russia Sanctions Bill, which will pass under urgency in Parliament this week, to provide further sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine.
