That seems to be the effective endgame, if reports ahead of New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins' attendance at the NATO summit in Lithuania are anything to go by.

The headline of this article is a but dumb... NZ can not join NATO+ on any level...? NATO stands "North Atlantic Treaty Organization." Adding the + makes no difference and there is no NATO+. New Zealand is however a Major non-NATO ally or MNNA. There is a difference.

There are insufficient personnel to operate all the weapon systems in its inventory. Ships are mothballed, and although the first batch of new Bushmaster armored vehicles were delivered May 25 to Trentham Military Camp, Maj. Paul Napier of the Royal New Zealand Armoured Corps told Defense News that the Army lacks drivers.
