The army is operating at around 70% strength as it looks to rebuild from mass resignations following its MIQ guarding operation – and it’s going to take until 2026 to finish the regeneration.

A Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) P-3K2 Orion undertook a rare surveillance flight over the South China Sea last week. The Orion involved, NZ4202, is one of only three Orions that remain in RNZAF service pending the arrival of the P-8A.

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has started contacting all 94 personnel on unpaid leave reminding them they cannot go to Ukraine, but said it does not know how many staff are already there.
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has received reports that a soldier who was on leave has been killed in Ukraine.
The soldier was on a period of leave without pay at the time and was not on active duty with the NZDF.
