Marvel will not bring a transgender character to the big screen "soon", despite recent reports.

When Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked by a fan on Wednesday whether there are plans to bring more LGBT+ and transgender characters into the  Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) he replied "yes, absolutely, yes. Very soon, in a movie, we're shooting right now, yes."

However, recent reports suggest despite the introduction of Marvel's first gay character to appear in the next film 'Eternals', Feige only meant to answer the first part of the question, about LGBT+ characters, according to Variety. He did not mean to suggest a trans character will be coming "very soon" to the Marvel Universe.

Feige's confirmation had garnered a mixed response from fans, with many praising Marvel's progress towards increased representation and inclusivity, while others remained sceptical.

In 2019, Marvel announced 15 new projects for Phase 4, including films and Disney Plus shows. The first projects to be released are Black Widow on May 1, 2020, and Eternals on November 6, 2020. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is currently in pre-production.
