When Deanna Adams told her bridesmaids they could wear whatever they wanted at her wedding, she probably didn't expect a T-Rex to show up.

But that's exactly what happened to the American bride, thanks to her cheeky sister and maid of honour, Christina.

It certainly made for a one-of-a-kind bridal party.

She explained the Daily Mail that it all started out as a joke after Deanna left the dress decisions up to her bridesmaids.

Christina threw out plenty of off-the-wall ideas, from a dinosaur to a TARDIS from Doctor Who, but it seems the T-Rex was the winner.

Christina took her sister, Deanna, literally when she said her bridesmaids could wear whatever they wanted.

In the days before the wedding in Nebraska, US, she reminded her sister about her unusual choice of bridal wear.

From there, Christina says it became "a game of chicken", as she waited for her sister to put her foot down. Deanna, however, wasn't about to back down either.

And so, the bride wore white on her big day and her maid of honour wore a giant, inflatable dinosaur costume (though she did later change into more traditional attire for the reception, stating the costume was awfully hot).

Christina shared the wedding photos on social media, where they understandably got plenty of attention.

'I regret nothing', Christina says in her Facebook post.

While most people appreciated her outside-the-box thinking, the sisters weren't too bothered by those who didn't.

As Deanna explained on one negative comment, it wasn't just a joke, it was also "a giant middle finger" at the notion of spending thousands of dollars and caving to pressure to please other people on her and her husband's wedding day.

"The point was to get married to the man who treats me like I hung the moon, and we did that part," she wrote.
