Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg has enraged Kiwis over a tweet targeting New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions.

Thunberg shared an article from The Guardian headlined 'Emissions from cows on New Zealand dairy farms reach record levels'. She also pulled a quote from the story to tweet alongside it that says: "New Zealand is one of the world's worst performers on emission increases. Its emissions rose by 57 percent between 1990 and 2018 - the second greatest increase of all industrialised countries."

Bottled water might taste nicer than tap water, but the cost to the environment is so great it's not worth using it exclusively, a new study has found.

The environmental impact of extracting it would be 1400 times worse, researchers at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health said, and cost 3500 times more.

Taliban fighters overran three provincial capitals including the strategic northeastern city of Kunduz on Sunday, local officials said, as the insurgents intensified pressure on the north and threatened further cities.

The insurgents have taken dozens of districts and border crossings in recent months and put pressure on several provincial capitals, including Herat in the west and Kandahar in the south, as foreign troops withdraw. The offensive has gathered momentum in recent days after the US announced it would end its military mission in the country by the end of August.
