A passenger who objected to wearing a mask on an Air New Zealand flight from Christchurch to Dunedin on Wednesday was met by police when the plane landed.

Another passenger on the flight, Josiah Tualamali’i, tweeted about the incident, praising the Air New Zealand staff for how they handled the matter.

He said he got on the plane just before noon, and soon after there was an announcement about the requirement to wear a mask.

America is currently experiencing its worst political and constitutional crisis since the civil war when the very survival of Abraham Lincoln's government "of, by and for the people" was at stake.

On January 6, an armed mob of thousands carrying Confederate flags, symbols of the QAnon online conspiracy cult, Trump flags and pro-Nazi insignia stormed the US Capitol building where America's elected representatives had gathered to formally certify Joe Biden's election victory.

Two Kiwi MPs say the United States' determination that China is committing "genocide" with its repression of Uighurs in the Xinjiang region is a "significant" move by the global superpower.

There are also now calls for New Zealand to make a similar statement and ban the import of products from the region.

Two public health experts have called for even tougher measures at the border, including removing smoking and exercise areas at our managed isolation hotels.

The Government announced on Tuesday that from next week, almost all travellers to New Zealand must produce a negative test before boarding a plane home. Most Pacific Island nations, Australia, and people landing from Antarctica are exempt.

There’s nothing like the topic of medallic recognition to get the teeth grinding and sabres rattling in the defence force community. There is a long history of grievances around orders, decorations and medals. It is surprising how resistant many governments and officials are to settling what, in most cases, ends up being a $70 bit of metal and coloured ribbon with an accompanying afternoon tea. The significance is not in the cost but in the acknowledgement by the State of an individual’s service to others and the importance of that can’t be over-estimated.

An immunologist says fast-tracking New Zealand's COVID-19 vaccine rollout isn't the answer and believes the Government has its plan right.

National and ACT are calling for the vaccine rollout in New Zealand to be fast-tracked, especially for border workers. The UK expects every adult in its population to be vaccinated by September while New Zealand's vaccine rollout isn't expected to start until the second quarter of this year.
