The U.S. Air Force’s top officer wants the service to develop an affordable, lightweight fighter to replace hundreds of Cold War-vintage F-16s and complement a small fleet of sophisticated—but costly and unreliable—stealth fighters.

A woman was left with a brain injury, which she claims has affected her temperament, after she was hit by an e-scooter as she got off a bus.
Debra Christensen suffered a concussion, had severe bruising to her hip, and injuries to her cheek, chin and left hand, after she was struck hit by a Lime scooter ridden by Mitchell McIntyre in central Auckland, on June 25, 2019.

A new variant of COVID-19 spreading rapidly in New York City carries a mutation that may weaken the effectiveness of vaccines, according to researchers.
The new strain, B.1.526, was first detected in samples collected in New York City in November. The variant now accounts for roughly one in four viral sequences stored in a scientific database, according to a report by the New York Times.
