A former commander of an elite Afghan police unit that was trained by the New Zealand SAS is asking the Government to do more to help his comrades flee Afghanistan.
Major General Ghulam Daoud Tarakhil, who led Afghanistan’s Crisis Response Unit said CRU officers had spent years hunting “terrorists who used every means – including suicide attacks – to carry out their missions,” and were now being hunted by the Taliban.

Facebook Inc's independent oversight board demanded more transparency from the social media giant on Thursday, saying the company was not "fully forthcoming" on how it deals with certain high-profile user accounts.
The comments follow a Wall Street Journal report last month that said millions of Facebook accounts belonging to celebrities, politicians and other high-profile users were exempted from some internal checks.

LoD: You’re professional experience spans several sectors and job roles. What are the key strands that connect these and that have led you to your current role as NZDIA CEO?
IH: I was trained as an aircraft engineer with Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group in England a long time ago. I loved aircraft and aviation, and working with the military came at an early age when I started my apprenticeship at the age of 16. I was on a team that carried out modifications for the fleet that went down to Stanley for the Falklands War, and in the process garnered a very good view into how the military works and how things change during a conflict situation. It was a very interesting time.

New Zealand Defence Reserve Force members are engaged in many aspects of Operation Protect. In particular, they form part of the NZDF security and management details at Managed Isolation and Quarantine facilities around the country. Many have taken leave from their normal work to help out. Defence Minister Peeni Henare sees no reason to invoke existing legislation to protect their civilian employment while they work on the COVID frontline. He should explain why.

New analysis suggests unvaccinated people could be reinfected with COVID-19 every 16 months on average.
A recent study at the Yale School of Public Health in Connecticut, US, published in The Lancet Microbe, analysed immunological data from close viral relatives of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, to determine how long natural immunity from infection lasts for unvaccinated individuals - indicating when they should expect to become reinfected with COVID-19.

The leaders of New Zealand and the UK couldn't resist dropping a few rugby jokes as they celebrated their historic free trade agreement (FTA) during a video call.
"Jacinda, I just want to say this is a big moment for the UK and for our partnership with New Zealand, and we're absolutely thrilled that we seem to have driven for the line," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said from Downing St in London.
