An Auckland woman looking for a new home was hurt when a homeowner hung up on her after confirming her she was on Work and Income. 

The beneficiary, who asked only to be referred to as Sharon, has multiple sclerosis and receives the supported living benefit.

A Chinese doctor who was silenced by police for trying to share news about the new coronavirus long before Chinese health authorities disclosed its full threat has died from the disease, his friends and colleagues said.

Li Wenliang, an ophthalmologist at Wuhan Central Hospital, became a national hero and a symbol of the Chinese government's systemic failings last month.

A Chinese doctor among the first to alert authorities to the deadly coronavirus has died from the illness.

Local media first reported on Friday morning (NZ Time), that Dr Li Wenliang had succumbed to the virus which has spread across the globe. The World Health Organisation (WHO) soon confirmed the news, saying "we all need to celebrate work that he did on" the illness.

Destiny's Church leader Brian Tamaki has got stuck into immigrants and Jacinda Ardern in a wide-ranging sermon at Waitangi.

He arrived with about 200 supporters, including his wife Hannah, and was one of many who spoke to the crowd of about 1500 people at an interdenominational service at Whare Rūnanga on the Upper Treaty Grounds.

The coronavirus death doll has now claimed 563 lives, with over 28,000 confirmed cases.
