The scale of the challenge facing anyone seeking to rebuild New Zealand’s Reserve Force is far greater than previously understood. In previous articles, I have noted the overall decline in numbers and the significant movement of personnel from the Ready Reserve to the Standby Reserve. Several NZDF senior officers suggested digging deeper and official information act requests have revealed that the Reserve Force is a rapidly revolving door and total numbers are only holding up because of the high number of ex-regular force personnel who are transferring in.

Polystyrene meat trays, cups and takeaway food containers are the next targets in the battle to phase out single-use plastics, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced today.

Note from Nighthawk.NZ:

PET, PVC, PP, HDPE, PE, and Polystyrene are all recyclable. The problem is NZ doesn't have its own recycling plant to recycle these plastics. Another problem is the plastic gets contaminated with food (especially meat products) and then can't be recycled. And if it could it becomes a health and safety issue. Manufacturers have tried various products and ideas to fight the problem but none have really worked.
