The Opposition and ACT are criticising the Government's new package that is funding rebates for electric vehicles (EVs) through fees for "higher emitting" cars, calling it "another tax by stealth".

The Government announced its Clean Car Package on Sunday morning, in line with the advice of the Climate Change Commission, to drive down New Zealand's emissions. The package includes a range of measures to help New Zealand meet its 2050 carbon neutral target.

The movie They Are Us is set to follow Ardern's response in the wake of the attack at Al Noor and Linwood mosques in which 51 people were murdered.

Queensland has recorded two new local cases of COVID-19, according to Queensland health authorities.

The first case involves a woman who travelled from Melbourne and was identified by health authorities on Wednesday.

The second case is her husband, who has now also tested positive.

Calls have grown from some Western nations to investigate if actions in Xinjiang amount to genocide, as the US and parliaments in nations such as the UK and Canada have described China's policies there.

A major transnational police operation has led to dozens of arrests in New Zealand and more than 900 charges being laid against criminal organisations.

Search warrants have been executed across the North Island, including in Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Wellington, with more arrests expected in the coming days.

Fastly released a statement on Tuesday night confirming a global CDN disruption issue had been identified and a fix was being implemented.
