When gunshots rang out across Ōtara last weekend it sent some people ducking for cover – they posted warnings on social media, called police and sheltered in their homes.
And given the recent spate of gang-related shootings that have rocked the south Auckland suburb, it's with good reason they might be frightened.

SAN FRANCISCO – Dawn Aerospace announced Dec. 9 that it received approval from the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to begin flying the Dawn Mk-II Aurora, a 4.8-meter-long test vehicle the company developed as part of its campaign to develop a spaceplane to conduct multiple daily flights from conventional airports.

ANALYSIS: Some Kiwi employees could be set to lose work perks as a result of the Government’s tax changes.
Employers have to pay the fringe benefit tax on the perks they offer their employees. That tax rate is set in relation to the income tax rates. The new top tax rate of 39 per cent on income earned over $180,000 meant the tax rate for employee perks has also changed.

The European Union's executive on Thursday laid out contingency plans for a 'no-deal' Brexit at the end of the year to minimise disruption to air traffic and road and rail travel after talks between British and EU leaders failed to break an impasse.
The European Commission also proposed that Britain and the EU continue to offer reciprocal access to their fishing waters for up to a year, but London quickly rebuffed the idea.

A Florida scientist says armed police pointed a gun at her children during a raid she's blamed on the state's "gestapo" Governor, accusing him and other officials of covering up the extent of the local COVID-19 outbreak.
Rebekah Jones, who developed the state's COVID-19 online dashboard, was reportedly fired by the Department of Health (DOH) in May - officially for exhibiting "a repeated course of insubordination". Jones claims it was because she refused to alter data to make the outbreak look less serious than it really was.

A Chinese official's tweet of an image of an Australian soldier that sparked a furious reaction from Canberra was amplified across social media by unusual accounts, of which half were likely fake, an Israeli cybersecurity firm and Australian experts said.
The digitally altered image of an Australian soldier holding a bloodied knife to the throat of an Afghan child was tweeted by China's foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian on Monday.
