We had originally thought we would do a doubl café day doing the Royal Albatross Toroa Café and then Glenfalloch Café and Restaurant consider our friends from Christchurch visit there a few weeks back.
Name: Glenfalloch Café and Restaurant
Address: 430 Portobello Road, Macandrew Bay, Dunedin 9014
Website: https://glenfalloch.co.nz
We decided however that we would do the Toroa Café on Labour Day but do the Glenfalloch today.
The drive out the peninsula was pleasant on such a nice day. We parked in the car park. For those that don’t know Glenfalloch Gardens are public gardens you can stroll through but you can hire the restaurant and courtyard area for private functions like weddings and reunions etc.
From their website;
Glenfalloch Café & Restaurant is set in a beautiful historic woodland garden on Dunedin’s stunning Otago Peninsula. Strolling up to the café we both commented that it would be rude not to sit outside in the sun on such a nice day.

On todays order was savoury scones and a piece of ginger crunch for me and a brownie slice for Xaria and our standard coffee’s
Our slices and scones didn’t take long, I ate the ginger crunch first and was as sweet as I remember as a kid, Xaria enjoyed her slice as well. The scone was pretty good, however I personally thought it could have been heated for that slightly longer… however it was still good.
We had just about finished our slice and scone just as our coffee arrived… just in time. We both though a tad much froth for a flat white coffee but still enjoyable. However there was not a great deal or another words not a lot of cabinet food, a few savouries and a few sweet slices.
The service was pretty good and the price around $32.00 was pretty good for a café in such a pristine area etc. Did it feel like a café to be honest a hard call due to that we were sitting out side in a garden area with a pleasant view and setting and if sitting inside I think it would feel more like a restaurant. That being said would be great place to meet up with friends and family.
Over all was enjoyable.
