Another pre-trial hearing is being held today in the drawn-out and rare case of a Defence Force soldier charged with spying. The Linton-based soldier was taken into military custody nearly four years ago, in December 2019, and has remained on open arrest at home since then.

In April Prime Minister Chris Hipkins told Radio New Zealand that, ‘We have some big decisions ahead of us as well, as a country, in terms of capability we have in our Defence Force’. He went on to say that, ‘We’ve got some decisions ahead for the navy, we know that in the next 10 years or so we’re going to have to make some decisions about the future of the Anzac frigates.’

A retired Orion has been pulled apart at Marlborough’s Base Woodbourne and will make its way to the Air Force Museum in Christchurch.

On Tuesday Airbus staff removed the fuselage and wings from the Lockheed P-3K2 Orion NZ4203, ready for transport to Wigram where it will be on public display.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) will officially retire the first of its Lockheed C-130H Hercules tactical transport aircraft this week.

Located at Base Auckland the RNZAF’s No. 40 Squadron, which operates a fleet of five C-130H aircraft, will hold a ceremony to mark to occasion on 12 February and a Squadron retirement function in the hangar the day before.
