Duck hunting is still very much legal, police have clarified.
A press statement from Act on Tuesday claimed the Government had "cancelled" hunting season due to the "recent prohibition of steel shot ammunition".
But a police statement on Wednesday confirmed steel shot ammunition is not prohibited under the new gun laws.
"NZ police wish to clarify that cartridges filled with steel or lead shot are not prohibited," read the statement.
"They may still be used under the Arms Order 2019 as shotgun cartridges are specifically excluded from the prohibition."

Act Party leader David Seymour says police are under obligation to ensure the laws are clear to prevent confusion.
"It's important police have laws that are transparent," he told Newshub on Wednesday evening.
He says the Arms Order is causing confusion among firearms owners in New Zealand.
"People have no way of knowing what they can and can't use."
When asked if he would publish a second press release clarifying the regulations on ammunition, and apologising for misinformation Seymour said he would "absolutely reject that".
"I'll issue a press release saying thank god we forced them to actually make it clear what you can and can't use."
He says the confusion is the result of police "taking the legislation as a chance to make it up as they go along".
