A motorbike rider died at the scene of a three-bike crash on a rural road at Dovedale, west of Nelson.
One person died in an accident involving three motorbikes on Neudorf Rd, near Thorn Rd, in Dovedale.
A police spokeswoman said police had been called to a crash involving three motorbikes on Neudorf Rd at 4.35pm on Tuesday.
One person died at the scene, near the Thorn Rd intersection.
The serious crash unit would examine the site.
The road was closed and was expected to remain so for some time. Diversions were in place and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
St John spokeswoman Ngaire Jones said ambulance was notified at 4.27pm and sent two ambulances.
