One person has died following a serious motorcycle crash in the South Island's Tasman District.

Three motorbikes were involved in the crash, police said.

The victim died at the scene.

Police were called to the incident, on Neudorf Rd, in Dovedale at 4:35pm on Tuesday.

The road is currently closed and is expected to remain so for some time.

Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
