Protests against the Taliban's takeover in Afghanistan have spread to more cities, including the capital Kabul, while the militant group called on the country's imams to urge unity at Friday prayers, the first since they seized control.
Several people were killed when the militants fired on a crowd in Asadabad in the eastern province of Kunar, a witness said. Another witness reported gunshots near a rally in Kabul, but they appeared to be Taliban firing into the air.

A former Afghan interpreter for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) whose family are hiding in mountainous Bamiyan province with their children is pleading for the Government to rescue them.
The plea comes as the Defence Force issued an edict for Kiwi soldiers to stop seeking information and trying to help their trapped Afghan friends, who are fleeing in fear of the returning Taliban regime.

The Government will meet on Friday to decide whether to keep the country in level 4 lockdown, as the numbers of cases and exposure sites swell.
Two experts spoken to by Stuff said it was very likely the Government would extend the level 4 settings for at least the weekend, as much about the size of the cluster was still not known.
