Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has responded after pop star Selena Gomez called on New Zealand to commit to helping people around the world get access to the COVID-19 vaccine.

The 28-year-old former Disney star tweeted world leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez before turning to New Zealand's leader.

Dave Cull, a former Dunedin mayor, health board chairman, local government leader, and television presenter, has died.

Cull, 71, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year. He received treatment before moving into hospice care and then returning home to be with his family.

About 95 per cent of Kiwis are getting their second Pfizer vaccine jab within five weeks of their first dose.

That means of the 42,771 people who have had two doses as of Tuesday last week, about 2000 of them had their second jab more than two weeks after the recommended time to receive it.
