Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says vaccination passports could become part of a toolbox of restrictions should enough of the population get the COVID-19 vaccination.

In an interview with the Weekend Herald, Ardern said the Government would release details of levels of restriction should the country hit a 90 percent vaccination rate and it would likely include vaccination passports.

China on Friday listed more than 100 instances of what it said was US interference in Hong Kong affairs, including President Joe Biden's show of support for a pro-democracy newspaper.

US politicians and officials have denounced China over its tightening control of the former British colony of Hong Kong, especially the imposition of a sweeping national security law last year cracking down on dissent.

French defence contractor Naval Group is preparing to send Australia a bill after a NZ$93 billion contract was sunk by a secret deal between Canberra, Washington and London to share technology on nuclear-powered submarines and formed Aukus, a new three-nation defence alliance.

Naval Group chief executive Pierre Eric Pommellet told France's Le Figaro newspaper in an article published on Wednesday that a bill would be sent to Canberra in the coming weeks. Australia had agreed in 2016 to buy 12 diesel-powered submarines from the French, and the break fee – on top of the more than a billion dollars reportedly spent during the design phase – could be substantial.
