Police have decided that key parts of a type of assault rifle allegedly used in the Christchurch terrorist attack are illegal, after months of confusion.

Despite changes to firearms legislation in the wake of the attack, key parts of an AR-15 rifle were not being purchased by the government at buyback events around the country.

A man has denied stealing 50 Lime scooters in Christchurch.

The 37-year-old Christchurch man is charged with the thefts, totalling $37,500, between January and May this year.

More than two years after an elderly man died after falling from a mobility scooter on a damaged footpath one of the companies responsible for his health and safety has been fined $500,000.

WorkSafe Chief Investigator Hayden Mander says after the sentencing in the Manukau District Court on Wednesday, that Shannon Thompson Concrete Pumps Limited had obstructed the WorkSafe investigation, and didn’t turn up at Court.

A firearm owners lobby group claims the buyback process is not ending up how it was sold to the public. 

An updated list of prohibited guns was issued on Thursday, with at least 100 new items added since June. New to the banned list are a number of AR-15 models, popular with mass shooters in the US.

Jasmine Wilson was barely recognisable as she lay dying in her hospital bed.
