The New Zealand Defence Force has been ordered to pay a former employee $25,000 after a flawed dismissal process.

The Employment Relations Authority in Wellington was told former human resource site lead Juliette Darnley worked with the force between July 31, 2017, until June 24, 2019.

Helen Clark and the Māori Council have spoken out against international media for describing Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta as a "tattooed Maori woman" and fixating on her appearance. 

Māori Council executive chairman Matthew Tukaki said it was a "disgrace" that Mahuta, the first woman and wāhine Māori to become New Zealand's Foreign Minister, had been subjected to "offensive" headlines overseas.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed one new managed isolation-related case of COVID-19 in the community.

The case is a staff member working in a managed isolation facility in Christchurch where the international mariners are in quarantine.
