The search for the source of the Devonport COVID-19 community case has begun after confirmation it's linked to the New South Wales outbreak

Officials are scrambling to figure out how the man in his 50s caught the coronavirus, when there is no obvious link to managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ), where the Delta variant has been picked up in arrivals at the border.

BRITONS are urging the Government to focus on the "CANZUK union", rather than the EU, following reports about how much western European states are paying Brussels.

Germany is paying the EU £16.4bn per year, according to press agency DPA. The figures for France and Italy are also vast, at £8bn and £5.3bn respectively.

New Zealand can expect to see between 50 to 120 new cases of COVID-19, thanks to the high transmissibility of the Delta variant.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said on Wednesday modelling suggests these numbers are entirely possible.

Billy Te Kahika has been apprehended by police while speaking at an anti-lockdown protest outside TVNZ's Auckland headquarters. 

He was seen shaking hands with people at a gathering of about 100 protestors from midday on Wednesday.

Most of those spoken to in the South Island by RNZ last night were convinced of the need to lock down, despite the one positive case so far being located in the North Island.

Less than an hour after the announcement, cars were queuing out onto the street at supermarkets and bottlestores all over Christchurch as people stocked up on essentials.

Travel to the Cook Islands from New Zealand has been suspended for at least 72 hours following the community case of COVID-19 in Auckland on Tuesday.

Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown has also moved the country to alert level 2, as all of Aotearoa is moved into alert level 4 for at least three days.
