Europe's fight to secure COVID-19 vaccine supplies intensified on Thursday when the European Union warned drug companies such as AstraZeneca that it would use all legal means or even block exports unless they agreed to deliver shots as promised.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is not ruling out more cases of COVID-19 in the community until all test results of the Pullman Hotel guests are returned, and she's demanded an explanation for the delay from the Ministry of Health. 

The Pullman Hotel is the latest COVID-19 petri dish. It's getting no new arrivals since the Northland woman, a man and his son tested positive after their stay, and it'll be deep cleaned.

The Australian government has extended the suspension of its Green Zone travel corridor with New Zealand for another 72 hours amid concerns about a potential community coronavirus outbreak.

The extension means the next flight to Australia from New Zealand will be at 2pm on Sunday, January 31 at the earliest.

New Zealand's making "steady progress" on a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom, but won't compromise on quality amid reports a deal is "just weeks away". 

The third round of FTA negotiations between Aotearoa and the UK began on Tuesday with officials looking to "substantively progress and in some areas conclude" discussions. Talks formally launched back in June following Britain's exit from the European Union the January prior.

On 29 July 2020, after three years of design and build, the Royal New Zealand Navy’s (RNZN) new POLAR class Maritime Projection and Sustainment Capability (MPSC) ship HMNZS AOTEAROA was officially inducted into the RNZN. During the commissioning ceremony, in the presence of the Governor General the Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy, RADM David Proctor – the Chief of the Navy, presented Captain Simon Rooke a carved Kauri staff -the Tai-Panuku – the symbol of command, together with the Commissioning Warrant and the Commissioning Pennant. HMNZS AOTEAROA is Captain Rooke’s sixth command in his 30 years of service.
