Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has quashed rumours that the Government is set to announce a total lockdown across the country to combat coronavirus.

Ardern was speaking in Rotorua in the wake of a two hour, closed door meeting with herself, Finance Minister Grant Robertson and members of Rotorua's tourism, hospitality and wider business sectors.

New Zealand is closing its borders to everyone but citizens and permanent residents in an attempt to stop the growth of coronavirus.

The ban is in place for planes boarding after 11.59pm on Thursday.

People with blood type A may be at greater risk from coronavirus, scientists have claimed.

Researchers in China looked at blood group patterns of more than 2000 people who had been diagnosed with the virus and treated in hospital.

Foreign Minister Winston Peters has announced a "do not travel" guideline - the first time it has been done in New Zealand.

Test results for 150 students of Dunedin's Logan Park High School have all come back negative, as New Zealand counts 28 coronavirus cases. 

The Ministry of Health confirmed all the students were cleared of Covid-19 on Thursday afternoon, after coming into contact with a confirmed case earlier in the week.
