Pfizer plans to ask US regulators to authorize a booster dose of its COVID-19 vaccine within the next month, the drugmaker's top scientist said on Thursday, based on evidence of greater risk of reinfection six months after inoculation and the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant.

Pfizer chief scientific officer Mikael Dolsten said the recently reported dip in the vaccine's effectiveness in Israel was mostly due to infections in people who had been vaccinated in January or February. The country's health ministry said vaccine effectiveness in preventing both infection and symptomatic disease fell to 64 percent in June.

The New Zealand Defence Force is taking a hard line against unvaccinated staff with some being publicly outed for not having the Covid-19 vaccination.

A letter sent to Minister of Defence Peeni Henare, which Stuff obtained, stated several members of the armed forces were being treated unfairly or unreasonably because they were unvaccinated.

Treasury's admission that officials use "professional judgement" to predict house prices, rather than a solid economic model, has shocked Green, National and ACT MPs, who are demanding answers.

Green MP Chlöe Swarbrick, who sits on Parliament's Finance and Expenditure Committee (FEC), has for three weeks now sought a briefing from Treasury officials on how it comes up with advice on house price forecasting.

Peeni Henare wasn't behind the removal of a controversial essay rallying against "identity-based" diversity in the Defence Force from a website, his office says.

On Wednesday, it emerged an essay titled 'Can the Army Afford to go Woke, Benign Social Progress or National Security Threat' had won the Chief of Army Writing Competition, only to later be removed from the Knowledge-Enabled Army (KEA) website.

Pay rise: they're two words that have received scant attention during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But as the economy heads further into recovery and demand for skills increases, that’s changing, a leading recruiter says. Economists say unemployment, currently 4.7 percent, is likely to have peaked. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by 1.6 percent over the March 2021 quarter.  Latest Trade Me Jobs data indicates it’s a good time to change in employment or ask for a pay rise, SEEK May data also showing jobs ads up by a quarter compared to May 2019.

Every jab counts when it comes to shutting Covid-19 out

The holy grail of vaccination programmes is to stop the disease in its tracks.

Vaccines do that by putting up roadblocks to infection. When the virus runs into a vaccinated person who is protected against infection, it has to back up and look for a different route.
