In 1582, Pope Gregory began a campaign to replace Julius Caesar's widely used calendar with a slightly more accurate one that was named for him. Most of the modern world eventually agreed, and the rest is history.
Now a pair of Johns Hopkins professors believe it's time to turn the page on the Gregorian calendar in favour of one to really last the ages.

A Waikato student rapidly choked and collapsed after vaping in his school lunchbreak - he's since vowed never to touch the stuff again.
The Cambridge High School student was taken to Waikato Hospital last Wednesday, and his caregivers were told vaping was the cause, the school said.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says it's "not realistic to assume" COVID-19 will never reach New Zealand, and the current travel restrictions can't go on forever.
The virus has so far infected nearly 80,000 people, killing nearly 2500 of them. The vast majority of the deaths - 2346 - have been in China's Hubei province, where the outbreak began. It's now starting to spread in other countries, most notably South Korea, Japan, Italy, Singapore and Iran.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is concerned about the number of coronavirus cases with no clear epidemiological link, although the total number of cases outside China remains relatively small, its director general has said.
Cases with no clear link include those with no travel history to China or contact with a confirmed case, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a briefing.
