Northland will be moving back to a strict alert level 3 lockdown from 11:59pm on Friday night after a positive case travelled extensively around the region.

COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins confirmed the woman, who is now in an Auckland MIQ facility, travelled to the region on October 2 from Auckland reportedly under false pretenses and was there until the evening of October 6.

The career diplomat U.S. President Joe Biden named to lead the Central Intelligence Agency is creating a high-level unit aimed at sharpening the agency's focus on China, at a time of tense relations between the world's two largest economies.

CIA Director William Burns said on Thursday that the China Mission Center would cut across "all of the agency's mission areas," noting the CIA's concern was "the threat ...from the Chinese government, not its people."

The Pentagon, which historically has not disclosed details about U.S. training or advising of Taiwanese forces, did not specifically comment on or confirm the deployment.
