A person who was isolating with COVID-19 has died, the Ministry of Health says.
The exact cause of death is currently unknown, they say, and may have been COVID-19 or some other cause. This will be determined by the Coroner.
The person was isolating at a Manukau address and was found dead by a family member visiting them on Wednesday.
The person tested positive for COVID-19 on October 24 and had been isolating at home with public health oversight.
"The Ministry is working with other agencies, routinely involved in any sudden death, including Police and other health organisations," the Ministry of Health says.
"The Ministry extends its sympathies to this person's family and acknowledges the stress this may cause them."
There have been 28 deaths related to COVID-19 in New Zealand.
