The week we had a plan and we actually were able to stick to that plan and that plan was Blacks Road Grocer. Which believer it or not is also a cafe.
Name: Blacks Road Grocer
Address: 178 North Road, North East Valley, Dunedin 9010
Website: http://www.blacksroadgrocer.co.nz
Apparently a they sell a variety of goods as well as a cafe. The name of the store started as A. Thomson General Store in 1920's to Roughans A1 Store, Roughans Price Cutter, and by 2019 was known as Blacks Road Green Grocer and now just known as Blacks Road Grocer.
Both Xaria and I had not heard of this one before both of us just thinking it an actual grocers store... which to be fair and honest it sort of is that as well as a cafe, so we added to our list and calendar. Driving a out bought a few memories back to Xaria of her University Student days as she use to live just down the road a bit.

The store sells locally made and home grown produce, from jams, relishs and sauces to "Windy Ridge Milk" which is the one we like to breads, free range eggs, Harbour Honey, Evensdale cheeses, Coffee Grinds, to Bay Road Peanut Butter all locally made here in Dunedin. They also have a weekly vege box of local produce fresh in season vegatables and fruits.
Any way to the food we both ordered a savory pinwheel, Xaria also go a cheese roll and I got a sausage roll and our standard coffee's.
We found a table tucked in the corner looking out the window. Our savory pinwheels cam first that were freshly baked out of the oven. It also came with a small dollop of butter, which the pinwheel didn't really need the butter but as the owner of the cafe said as she delivered to our table they were freshly out of the oven. I have to admit they were good, and still trying to put my finger on the slight sweet taste in it.
The coffee's arrived next and were pretty good as well. Xaria did say the cheese roll was average however I enjoyed my sausage roll which came with a small portion side of relish.
Overall it was not that expensive from memory about $33.00 and the services was friendly. We both enjoyed the decor which was mix art products and produce for sale as well old stuff tastefully scattered about the place. A couple of old sowing machines (Xaria has a couple herself) older posters and old shop specials etc to old tools ie; a couple of old school hand planes and old hand drill a saw hanging on the wall etc just scattered here and there. To the upside down floor lamps hanging from the celling. It really gives a certain ambiance about the place.
They had outside seating if you so desired to sit out side on a nice day, we also noted that they a few blankets on the backs of the chairs if you needed them for the colder days.
Black Road Grocer is one of those places that it would be fun going back just to see what you missed seeing the first time round. We both enjoyed our visit.
