Today being Matariki and the latest statutory holiday in New Zealand, we decided to go off and try a different cafe for a change.  I had "planned" to go to the Wooden Table Cafe in Mosgiel but it was a bit frosty to go over the hill so we went into town instead. Driving through town (very carefully) we saw a few cafes open that we had already been to, both officially cafescapading and many we have been to before we started doing this great cafescapade of ours. However we ended up at Buster Greens on George Street near the student area mainly because there was parking pretty close by.

This location was previously known as "Everyday Gourmet" for many years. It was reasonably quiet when we arrived at 9.30 on a frosty holiday morning, the coffee came out quite quickly after ordering, followed half a coffee later by the cheese scones (very tasty and large) and the rest of our coffee's later by Nighthawks sausage roll.

Coffee and a good size and tasty cheese scone

Nighthawk joked when two officers of the thin blue line came in for a take away coffee... "Sorry they don't sell donuts here?"
No donuts here sorry...
I had assumed the delay on the scones was because of bringing out the savouries together, but that wasn't the case. We couldn't see how many people were in the downstairs seating area and it is possible there were quite a few getting breakfasts which could have caused the delay. Nighthawk really enjoyed his sausage roll which came with a very tasty relish on the side of sweet chilly sauce and the cheese scones were very short and tasty.

Cabinet food selection... savory and sweet.
We both enjoyed our visit, but just a bit unsure on the delay of the sausage roll... however Buster Greens definitely had a cafe sort of feel and atmosphere, with a good range of food, especially options for dairy free, gluten free, vegan and raw food diets. Both thought our coffee's were pretty good for our tastes.  Average cost for two coffee, two scones and a very large sausage roll $35.20 including a public holiday surcharge.
