We have been to the Long Dog before... but we have officially cafescapaded it. But this time we were meeting family there for a coffee and byte to eat as well as a bit of a chin wag.
Name: The Long Dog Cafe
Address: St Clair, Dunedin 9012
Website: https://www.facebook.com/LongdogDunedin
The meet up was organised for a12:30, a little later than I am use to when we normal go around 09:30-10:00am... and have morning tea break... Today I had to wait that extra few hours and I was starting to get hungry. Although we left ion time, we were a little late finding a car park down at St Clair this time of the day during the weekend. Eventually finding we wandered back to the cafe and met up with my sisters and partner.
The Long Dog have a menu as well as over the counter cabinet food, from savory to sweet cakes, They also have seating both indoor and outdoor, which is nice on warm summers day and can even be pleasant on nice autumn day as it was today. The view and sound of the ocean gives that little extra ambience. A nice touch the had blankets patrons could use on the cooler days if desired.
After deciding what we wanted, while I changed my mind 3 or 4 times and finally deciding on a beef pie... I haven't had a beef pie and ages... well that was about to change and was a nice change. Xaria also have Chicken pie... We made our order and returned to our seats. My sisters both ordered a toasted sandwhich and Al also go a beef pie.
Toasted Sandwich from the Long Dog Cafe.
Coffee's started to arrive first, although we would have thought the Long Black would have go there first, however that and Xaria's Soy Flat White to a bit longer. Just seemed a bit odd to us... Then the food arrived... The girls got their toasted sandwiches first... and they looked pretty yummy. I did actually forget to ask if the enjoyed them, but they ate it all and seemed to enjoy (I don't recall any complaints so that's a good thing).
I believe my cheese roll was next and to be fair was just a standard cheese roll nothing fancy.
Then came the pies... I do have to admit I enjoyed the beef pie, so did Al, and Xaria also enjoyed her Chicken and Leek pie. Pretty sure they are made on site and not your standard bulk commercially made run of the mill pie. There was plenty of meat and good flaky pastry, also a little salad on the side and a chutney was a nice touch I mean its a pie... which had a nice mild (very mild) tang to it. Would have gone well with the sausage roll if I had ordered one.
Coffees, as you know by now we very rarely truly comment on them for a variety of reasons ... and today there were no major complaints about the coffee... mine was a little weaker than I normally like but was still drinkable and to be totally fair was fine.
Price wise for two pies, two coffee's and a cheese roll was around $40.50 which I thought was up there... The staff were friendly enough. As stated before they had a few blankets for sitting outside on the cooler days was a good touch. It had the cafe feel and culture to it... which can be hard to explain or put our finger on as to what that is. Over all we all enjoyed today's cafescapde.
