Note from Nighthawk.NZ:

the paragraph where she says "New recruits to the NZ defence forces, who joined up hoping for job security, to learn a trade and develop a skillset, may be in for a nasty shock if asked to take up arms against this sea of trouble." is the dumbest thing I have heard in years, anyone who joins the armed forces knows the risk and knows that they may be asked to actually go to war... to say that they could be in for a shock if asked is just pure and utter crap.

New Zealand has to pick a side...we can not sit on the fence... and the way China has been aggressively pushing its weight around in the south china sea and pacific... we better pick the correct side to that is willing to push back.

Defence Minister Ron Mark is adamant there is no danger in sending Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) personnel to RIMPAC 2020.

"We will deploy a Covid-19-free vessel, with Covid-19-free crew," Minister Mark says. "It will stay isolated from all other people."

Australia has snapped awake from a long slumber with its new defence strategy.

It doesn't propose major new fleets of subs or strike fighters beyond the pre-existing plans. That's partly because they take many years and Australia has realised it has no years left.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) operates in a vast geography that ranges from idyllic Pacific islands to Antarctica, and also deals with broad array of missions.

RNZAF chief air vice-marshal Andrew Clark says that the missions of the broader New Zealand Defence Force fall into two broad areas, one covering typical military missions, the other being what would be regarded in other countries as coast guard work.

Author has a few details wrong. Aotearoa is 26,000 tons, she can carry 22 20 ft containers, and weapons though this is not confirmed yet, but will most likely be "fitted for but not with"  RNZN official fact sheet click here
