ey appointments reaffirm commitment to delivery and growth in the region August 30, 019 – CANBERRA, Australia – Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) announced today that, effective 1 September, Joe North has been appointed Chief Executive, Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand, with Scott Thompson assuming the newly created position of Deputy Country Executive, Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand.

Over a career that has spanned 30 years with Lockheed Martin, Mr. North has a proven record of leading the delivery of capability platforms, most recently as Vice President of Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) Operations for Australia and New Zealand.

During his time with Lockheed Martin he has provided an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship for employees, leading major capability programs for the United States Navy. In recent years he has led the Lockheed Martin LCS program, supporting new construction (of 14 ships), class services, sustainment and international efforts, including five years spent in Japan focusing on delivering Japanese self defence capability in the maritime domain.

As Chief Executive, Mr. North will lead the growth of Lockheed Martin’s Australian and New Zealand businesses both domestically and for international export, as well as serving as the lead representative in the delivery of Lockheed Martin’s programs, products and services. Mr. North will report to Executive Vice President for Lockheed International, Mr. Rick Edwards.

A former Royal Australian Navy officer, Mr. Thompson joined Lockheed Martin in 2004 and has had a distinguished career, most recently as Director of Strategic Engagement for Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand. In that role Mr.
Thompson had oversight of Australian business growth activities and managing the corporation’s Australian community engagement initiatives. Immediately prior to this appointment, Mr Thompson was Interim Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin
Australia and New Zealand.

As Deputy Country Executive, Mr. Thompson will continue his focus on government and customer relations, reporting to Mr. North. Mr. Edwards said the appointments were a clear indication of Lockheed Martin’s ongoing customer focus and commitment to program delivery in Australia and New Zealand.

“Joe has proven himself in leadership roles on significant programs and his appointment as Chief Executive demonstrates we remain committed to delivering for our customers in Australia and New Zealand, he said. “With his experience, Joe will provide a critical link to our US technological backbone and expertise which is critical to ensuring we can continue to support the development of a future sovereign defence capability for Australia.”

Prior to this appointment, Joe North served as Vice President of Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) Operations for Australia and New Zealand. Mr. North is an experienced program manager with a proven record of leading programs through meaningful change. In his most recent position, he was responsible for the execution and operational activities for all RMS contracts in Australia and New Zealand including future strategic planning.

Mr. North began his Lockheed Martin career as a program liaison director for the AEGIS program. Over the past 30 years, he has provided an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship for employees, leading Lockheed Martin’s effort to build the nation’s first LCS, USS Freedom (LCS 1), which was delivered to the U.S. Navy in September 2008 and was deployed two years ahead of schedule. Mr. North continued to lead the Lockheed Martin LCS program, supporting new construction (15 ships), class services, sustainment and international efforts. In addition, Mr. North was responsible for the Launchers, Weapons and Control Systems business, which includes VLS, VLA and the control/automation systems for machinery and damage control.

Mr. North also spent five years in Japan as the DDG 2313 class design and production manager.

Prior to his industry career, Mr. North worked for Naval Sea Systems Command where he was the lead engineer for the DDG 51 Class weapon systems and topside integration. He was assigned to the NAVSEA DDG 51 Class Design Team and was a technical lead on the Source Selection Team, as well as a site engineer for the detail design and production start-up.

Mr. North received a Bachelor of Science degree in bio-medical engineering from the Catholic University of America and coursework towards a Master of Science degree in aerospace and ocean engineering at the Virginia Tech University.

Deputy Country Executive Lockheed Martin Australia & New Zealand Scott Thompson will take up his appointment as the Deputy Country Executive, Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand with effect 1 September 2019.

His previous role was as Director of Strategic Engagement for Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand. In that role Mr. Thompson had oversight of Australian business growth activities and managing the corporation’s Australian community engagement initiatives. Scott joined Lockheed Martin in the United States in 2004 as the Aegis Logistics Support Manager for the United States Navy’s fleet of Aegis cruisers and destroyers. He worked in this capacity until late 2007 when he returned to Australia on another Aegis related assignment. In 2009 his role expanded when he was appointed as the lead for all Maritime Logistics and Sustainment activities in Australia. In 2010 he assumed the responsibilities of the Deputy Director Strategy and Business Development and remained in that position until transitioning to his current role in March 2016.

Prior to joining Lockheed Martin Scott spent 20 years as a Supply Officer in the Royal Australian Navy. During his naval career he enjoyed a variety of ashore and afloat postings, principally in the logistics domain. Career highlights include overseas postings to the United States and United Kingdom and a 2-year posting as the Supply Officer of the destroyer HMAS BRISBANE.
