Two people have died following a crash in Dunedin.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Huntly Road, in Woodside, around 5.30pm.

It is believed that two vehicles were involved in the crash.

"Two people died at the scene and a third person has been taken to hospital in a critical condition," a police spokesperson said.

The road remains closed and motorists were urged to avoid the area if possible.
