Two people have been arrested in Wellington after allegedly breaching alert level 4 restrictions, and police are also investigating another suspected breach in Queenstown - reportedly involving a high profile Kiwi.
A police spokesperson confirmed a 24-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man were arrested in Wellington on Saturday after allegedly travelling from Auckland to Wellington.
"They have been charged with Failing to Comply with Order (COVID-19) and are expected to appear in Wellington District Court on Monday, September 20," the spokesperson said.
"As the matter is before the court, police are not in a position to provide anything further at this time."
At the same time, authorities are investigating another incident where a person allegedly travelled from Auckland to Queenstown last week.
"Police are following up with the person involved to determine if any breach of the Health Act has occurred," the spokesperson said.
The Otago Daily Times reported they are a high profile Aucklander. An unnamed source told the publication the Aucklander had attended a gathering in a resort last weekend and spent time with two other Queenstown residents, not isolating.
They were reportedly staying at an Airbnb property.
It comes after top horse-breeder and jockey William Willis and his partner Hannah Rawnsley, a lawyer at an Auckland firm, were accused of using essential worker exemptions to cross Auckland's southern boundary amid the regional lockdown.
The two allegedly then travelled to Hamilton Airport and boarded a commercial flight to Queenstown, before driving to their family's holiday home in Wānaka.
