Five helicopters and three ambulances have been sent ot the scene of a bus rollover on the main highway out of Rotorua.
The bus rolled on State Highway 5, near Waiohotu Rd and Galaxy Rd, Mamaku, on Wednesday morning.
St John Ambulance have dispatched five helicopters, three ambulances and a manager to the scene.
"We are assessing patients and will update with any further information as it comes to hand," they said in a Tweet.
Police said information on any injuries was not yet available, but a witness at the scene said it looked as though many had been injured.
It is understood around 23 people were onboard when the bus rolled. A witness said the bus was on its side, in water.
NZTA said the road was closed, and diversions will be in place between Tīrau and Ngongotaha. Long detours via Tauranga or Tokoroa would be required, they said.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
