Last week, China declared it would police the skies above a vast new territory that includes a group of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea. China and Japan have been at loggerheads for years over the islands. The dispute has mushroomed into a tense standoff with Japan and its U.S. ally on one side and China on the other.
