A traffic complaint from a member of the public helped police nab a wanted man who was found allegedly driving a stolen car and wearing stolen clothes that still had security tags attached.
Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said police received a complaint about a car heading south from Waikouaiti about 10.30pm yesterday.
The driver was pulled over on Howe Street in North Dunedin, and after giving police multiple fake details, he was identified as 28-year-old Christchurch man who was wanted on shoplifting and breach of bail charges.
He was found to be wearing stolen clothes with price tags and security tags still attached, and there were other items in the car that also still had the tags attached, Snr Sgt Dinnissen said.
The car he was driving was found to have been a Christchurch Hospital vehicle that had been reported stolen, he said.
The man was charged with shoplifting, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, and two counts of wilful trespass.
He was due to appear in the Dunedin District Court this morning.
