Traffic was disrupted around the country today, with convoys of tractors and utes with dogs on board arriving in dozens of centres around New Zealand, as farmers protested against government regulations.

Groundswell NZ organised the 'Howl of a Protest' in more than 40 towns and cities over recent environmental regulations, the 'ute tax' and a seasonal worker shortage.

"I do not accept any suggestion of a rural-urban divide," she said in response to the Groundswell protests on Friday. "What I accept is that we have national challenges."

Police are concerned by a worrying increase in firearms incidents - and an increase in offenders who are willing to use them.

It has now been revealed that the man fatally shot by police in Hamilton on Wednesday night had fired at officers with a military-style semi-automatic weapon.

New Zealanders feel "shut down" and are accused of being a racist or a 'Karen' if they say something, Judith Collins says as she celebrates National's new 'Demand the Debate' campaign.

The opposition party on Sunday launched the campaign, which it says comes in response to policy announcements by the Government which it never campaigned on, such as the electric car rebate scheme. It wants the country to have a conversation about these issues, saying Labour's "parliamentary majority is not a mandate for Labour to promote their ideological wish list".
