Gun owners around the country have held protests outside four police buyback events.

Fifty people holding placards stood opposite Christchurch collection events on Saturday, resisting the Government's firearms law reforms, saying licensed gun owners are being unfairly penalised.

Police are blaming the online gun database privacy breach on "human error".

The database allowed people to notify police they have a prohibited firearm or related item. But earlier on Monday, it was revealed there had been a privacy breach which made gun owners' details available online - including names, addresses, dates of birth, and bank account numbers.

Samoa's government will shut down this week due to the measles outbreak.

All services except water and electricity will be closed, and staff have been instructed to help with the country's mass vaccination campaign.

A data breach has exposed the personal details of thousands of gun owners and led to police closing its firearm buyback platform. 

The details of more than 37,000 firearm owners, including the guns they possess and bank account information, may have been made publicly available, according to the Council of Licensed Firearms Owners (Colfo).

Brian Tamaki has called the Government out over the latest cash injection for schools announcement, saying Destiny School has "never got anything".

The Government announced on Sunday some schools will receive a cash injection of up to $400,000 to help improve their facilities.
