OPINION: New Zealand and China are being pushed toward further regional economic integration as part of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) signed last month.

On the face of it, the RCEP is a positive step for cross-border investments. It further integrates trade between the two nations, along with Japan, South Korea, Australia and the ten countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

An Australian regulator sued Facebook on Wednesday (local time) accusing it of collecting user data without permission, building on government efforts around the world to rein in the social network.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said it was seeking an unspecified fine from Facebook for promoting a virtual private network as a way for people to protect their data, while secretly using the information to pick targets for commercial acquisitions.

Boeing has been awarded a contract worth approximately NZ$150 million to provide P-8A Poseidon training for the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF).

The aircraft manufacturer was appointed by the United States Navy to work on a suite of training systems and courseware to prepare RNZAF aircrew and maintenance staff to safely and effectively operate and maintain the aircraft for decades to come.

The Government has announced the three scenarios it has rehearsed in preparation for potential community cases appearing in New Zealand over the summer holidays.

Earlier on Tuesday, COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins revealed alert level changes would be a "last resort" in the event of a community outbreak during the holidays. However, he said Kiwis following guidelines and the Government having plans in place will give New Zealanders "the best chance" of enjoying summer.
