Police have arrested and charged a man who allegedly travelled from Auckland to Wānaka in breach of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

The 36-year-old allegedly left Auckland, which is in Covid-19 alert level 3, and travelled to Wellington on October 8. He allegedly travelled to Wānaka on October 12, a police spokesperson said.

Chinese government-controlled media has threatened Australia with further trade strikes after former prime minister Tony Abbott accused Beijing of bullying Taiwan and claimed China could “lash out disastrously” if it was not stopped.

China Daily, which is managed by China’s State Council Information Office and is seen as a forward indicator of Chinese government international positioning, said in an editorial that Abbott’s visit to Taiwan last week was a provocation that had smeared the mainland and risked “dragging Australia deeper into the mess of its own making”.

Police have been warned that people may be assuming other’s identities and getting Covid-19 vaccinations on their behalf.

Stuff understands police are investigating at least one incident where a person is believed to have got vaccinated for another person.

An aircraft carrier strike group, consisting of ships of the Navy of Great Britain, the United States, Japan, Canada, the Netherlands and New Zealand, made its passage unhindered through the waters of the South China Sea. This was told by the commander of the international AUG, British Admiral Stephen Moorhouse.
