It's prompted another reminder from the Ministry of Health on Wednesday, urging people not to become complacent.

In November, there were an average of 866,000 scans per day.

Simon Bridges says the suspension of New Zealand-based Twitter accounts, many of which voice right-wing opinions, is "an overreaction".

Over the past week, the platform has removed US President Donald Trump "due to the risk of further incitement of violence", and later removed over 70,000 accounts "that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content".

New Zealand’s borders controls are getting even stricter, with arrivals from virtually all countries soon needing a negative Covid test before boarding a plane here.

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins on Tuesday gave Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield new powers, which means he can now easily require negative tests for arrivals from all countries apart from Australia, some Pacific Island nations, and Antarctica.

A rumour New Zealand will enter lockdown on January 15 has been slammed as false by the All-of-Government COVID-19 Response Group after the untrue claims circulated on social media.
