U.S.-NEW ZEALAND RELATIONS
New Zealand is a strong partner and friend of the United States. The U.S. diplomatic presence in New Zealand dates back to the commissioning of the first U.S. Consul in 1838. Formal diplomatic relations were established in 1942, following the United Kingdom’s recognition of New Zealand’s domestic and external autonomy within the British Empire. During World War II, U.S. military personnel were stationed in New Zealand to prepare for battles such as Guadalcanal and Tarawa.

It started with a dream to create a patch of heaven in Fiji, a surfer’s paradise right near one of the world’s most legendary waves, Cloudbreak. Two Aussie mates, Navrin Fox and Woody Jack, obtained a 99-year lease on land on Malolo Island and planned a small and environmentally friendly resort. But then, to their horror and disgust, right next door bulldozers rolled in and started clearing everything in sight. The spectacular reef, sandy beach and pristine rainforest were all destroyed by Chinese developers determined to build, of all things, a $100 million casino. But as Liam Bartlett reports, far from being wiped out, the Aussie surfers refused to let the dirty rotten scoundrels get away with it.

Critics assert that New Zealand has a low capacity to absorb the Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA). This paper reviews RMA trendlines and enduring characteristics of New Zealand's strategic interests, constructs a New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) modelled on RMA trendlines, and costs this model. The paper finds that the NZDF can absorb the RMA, and New Zealand can afford to further upgrade its armed forces within current financial baselines. A NZDF modernised along RMA trendlines would be significantly more effective as a fighting force (and in turn in its peacekeeping capacity), in its sovereignty protection roles; and in its ability to carry out ancillary tasks including research and, rescue and disaster relief.

An older paper (1999) ... I agree with some of what he said, other stuff I am not sure ... and today's world is totally different from when this was written and when it was targeted for.

New Zealand’s Green Party purports to have a pacifist foreign policy. Its founding charter lists “non-violent conflict resolution” as one of four guiding principles. Following the recent US assassination of Iranian General Qassem Suleimani, an act of war, Green MP Golriz Ghahraman called for NZ troops to be withdrawn from Iraq, where they are supporting the illegal US imperialist occupation.
